In this time of COVID, many couples have decided to forgo a typical wedding and get married at the courthouse instead. I have photographed many elopements at the Denver courthouse of varying styles. Whether the couple decides to have a ceremony by a judge within the courthouse, or wants to sign marriage license and have portraits afterward, these courthouse civil weddings can have many varieties. This particular Denver courthouse wedding between Camille and Dan consisted of a judge performing their wedding ceremony, followed by family and couples portraits outside the Denver City & County building.
I think there is a misconception that having a courthouse wedding will be less special. In this intimate wedding, Camille was still walked down the aisle by her father and Dan got to see her for the first time coming down the aisle. They both shared beautifully written vows and had the most important people by their side. Being able to witness their vows and the palpable love and joy by those surrounding them was an honor.
After Camille and Dan sealed it with a kiss, they signed their marriage license to make it official. We photographed a couple group photos within the court room and then moved to the steps outside for more portraits. The Denver City & County Building is one of my favorite buildings in Denver because of its beautiful structure. We utilized the giant staircase up to the front door, the ornate gold doors, the adjacent capital building and the surrounding flower beds that colors popped against the concrete.
While COVID has thrown a wrench in many couple’s marriage plans, it is endearing to see that love still prevails even though typical wedding celebrations have been out of the picture. Seeing the tears shed during Camille and Dan’s emotional vows, seeing their smiles and feeling the love and support by their families, I am reminded of the love that exists in this world, regardless of what life throws your way.
