So you want to get married downtown? You love Denver; the buildings, the lines, the color, the people, the buzz. You want to find a downtown Denver wedding venue that is beautiful, will fit all of your guests, is close to places to stay, and is next to fun things to do. Bibsby’s Folly is a craft winery in north Denver that started hosting weddings in winter of 2017. This Bigsby’s Folly wedding checked off all of the boxes and was a great example of how beautiful downtown Denver weddings can be.
First, will a Bigsby’s Folly wedding be beautiful? You want the pictures to be incredible and you want your guests to remember how stunning the surroundings were. As a downtown Denver wedding photographer, I have had the privilege of photographing weddings in many downtown venues, but Bigsby’s Folly has remained one of my favorites because of its warm, inviting atmosphere that is also modern and unique. There aren’t many places that can accomplish the two so seamlessly, but this venue does it with ease.
The venue was originally built in 1886 and has since been restored to showcase its stunning 30 foot exposed timber ceilings, original brick walls, and multiple windows letting in ample light. After photographing a wedding in the space, I can show you that it is the epitome of modern, homey, classy vibes and will be complimented by all.
Next up, and perhaps the most important, will a Bigsby’s Folly wedding be able to accommodate all of your important guests? Bigsby’s Folly can accommodate up to 300 guests in its 7,000 square feet and four distinctive event spaces. Their four event spaces; The Private Tasting Room, Barrel View Area, Production Area, Courtyard Patio and Front Patio (on occasion) are utilized during weddings to organize the activities of the evening. For buffet dinners, the tasting room can be used to house the buffet table, the Barrel View area for cocktail hour, and the Production area for the ceremony, dinner and dancing. The outdoor spaces can be used during warmer months.
Another factor of picking a wedding venue is making sure that your guests have a place to sleep after the wedding. Will a Bigsby’s Folly wedding be close enough to hotels? Bigsby’s Folly is located in the RiNo district in north Denver, just a three minute drive away from the brand new Source hotel. The hotel has 100 rooms and 2,300 square feet of event space.
The Source is not your average hotel, with a brewery, boutiques, restaurants and cafes all in one spot, this is a modern all-inclusive one-stop-shop perfect for a date night weekend or visits from out-of-towners. Whether you want some shopping, a beer or a multitude of options for breakfast, lunch or dinner, the Source is guaranteed to impress your guests.
If guests are wanting to stay closer to the heart of Denver, there are many hotels just 10 minutes away. This showcased winter wedding party chose to get ready at the stunning Crawford Hotel located in Union Station just a 10 minute car ride southwest of the venue. If guests are coming in from out of town through Denver International Airport, they can take the A-line through Denver RTD from the airport straight to Union Station. If guests are staying on 16th Street Mall or nearby, they can ride to Union and then take the Free Mall Ride bus down 16th Street to the intersection closest to their hotel.
So we’ve got the big ones out of the way. Your guests will have a beautiful venue and a place to lay their head at night, but will they be entertained before and after your Bigsby’s Folly wedding? You want to make sure your guests have things to do before and after your big day! Lucky for them, RiNo (River North District) where Bigbsy’s Folly is located, is rich with opportunities for fun. One of my favorite things to do in RiNo is visit the beautiful murals that line the streets, storefronts and alleyways throughout the area. The color, detail and talent that goes into the murals by local artists is amazing. Even more amazing, the artists come back with new ideas and paint over existing murals every summer during an event called Crush Walls.
A few other places that made it onto my list of places to see in RiNo are Crema Coffeehouse (they have the best oat milk lattes), Yours Truly Cupcake (all of their desserts are heavenly and they even have desserts that are alcohol infused), Blue Moon Brewery (great beers and the coolest looking circular booths you’ve ever seen) and Fish N Beer (great seafood and ambiance).
Another great perk of RiNo is their participation in the Denver First Friday Art Walks. From 6pm-9pm on the first Friday of every month, shops open their doors for events ranging from art openings to live music for all to enjoy. This is a great opportunity to explore the area, meet new people and do a little shopping.
Need I say more? Do you need any more convincing? Clearly, Bigsby’s Folly Craft Winery is an ideal wedding venue for its modern but homey feel, proximity to hotels and culture, large hosting spaces for many guests and beautiful historic charm. The Bisby’s Folly wedding below showcases the full potential of this beautiful downtown wedding venue and illustrates its ability to entertain and impress all in attendance.
To those who love Denver, to those who love wine, to those who love urban venues…this is your place.
