We’re switching it up today! Instead of showing you a recent Denver wedding, engagement shoot or elopement, I am going to tell you all about one of my favorite Colorado engagement photoshoot locations, Lost Gulch Overlook in Boulder.
As a Colorado engagement photographer, I am commonly asked for location help before a shoot. While I shoot a good deal of downtown Denver engagement sessions, the majority of Colorado couples are looking for mountain views, rocks and pine trees for their save the dates. Lost Gulch Overlook checks all the boxes.
This gorgeous gem, located in Boulder, Colorado, is up Flagstaff Road just above Chautauqua Park. Once you reach the parking lot, you have a perfect woodsy background complete with dirt paths and pine trees. Further out at the actual overlook, the rocky terrain overlooks the perfect mix of nature and city. To the left you have gorgeous views of mountains and to the left, views of Boulder.
Lost Gulch Overlook is a popular hang out spot in Boulder, especially around sunset. Unfortunately, this means there will be crowds if you want to shoot around golden hour, but I have had success every time I go in shooting around people (or Photoshopping them out). If you want to get a sweeping landscape, I would suggest going for sunrise or staying late into blue hour.
For newly engaged couples looking to find epic Colorado engagement photoshoot locations, I’ve found your place! It’s a quick drive from Denver, has a lot of variety and you cannot beat the view. Remember that the terrain is very rocky and uneven, so bring appropriate shoes to scale the rocks, and try shooting early or late to avoid crowds.
The two engagement shoots below were captured during the summer beginning around sunset and proceeding through blue hour.
