Getting to photograph weddings is a humbling experience. You are the one they have trusted to capture all of the moments going on throughout one of the most important days of their life. While I treat every wedding with the same attention to detail and enthusiasm, photographing for your friends or family adds a whole other layer to the equation. Photographing this Chatfield Farms wedding for Micah and Elise, after growing up knowing Micah’s family and being best friends with his sister, was such a fun opportunity and wonderful experience.
This afternoon began with the typical Colorado afternoon thunderstorm that would not let up. We narrowly escaped a reprise of rain after first look photos and had to complete the first half of family photos inside. I kept reminding the couple that rain always makes for better light, and it truly did. By the time guests had arrived and the ceremony was about to begin, everything was thinly coated with dew, the grass was greener and the light was perfectly defused.
With Micah and Elise loving to joke around and have fun, I knew the day would be full of laughter. My favorite example of this was Elise’s face when she realized they were about to finish their ceremony with a kiss put had yet to put the rings on. Micah’s dad who was officiating didn’t realize that they hadn’t put them on while they were saying their vows, and the whole interaction made the audience laugh.
The ceremony ended and the reception began in the barn nearby. There were toasts and dinner and then dances. The couple had their first dance, then Micah danced with his mom and last Elise shared a dance with her father. The dance floor opened and after some dancing outside, another front moved in and the same energy continued inside.
I will always remember Elise & Micah’s beautiful Chatfield Farms wedding and am so happy that I was trusted to capture it.
