Toward the end of October, I received an inquiry from Aparna who was coming into town from Atlanta for a downtown Denver elopement at Cheeseman Park around Christmas. Her fiancé, Raaj, was living in Seattle and they decided meeting in the middle in Denver would be a perfect spot for their intimate wedding. Both Aparna and Raaj wanted to have a relaxed day with their close friends and family touring around the city.
The day began at Cheeseman Park. Aparna & Raaj pulled up in their Uber and came to the Pavilions to start the ceremony, officiated by one of their close friends. After rings and vows were exchanged, the couple danced their first dance to a song performed on violin. We finished with photos of the group and portraits of the couple.
From there, it was time to make it official and we headed to the Denver courthouse. It was relatively quiet at the Webb Municipal Building given that it was just after Christmas. They were quickly greeted and began the process of completing and signing their marriage license. With huge smiles, Aparna and Raaj accepted their completed license and exited the building being cheered and applauded by their guests.
The rest of the afternoon was dedicated to walking around Denver. I showed them some of my favorite spots including the capitol, the City and County building and nearby colorful walls and geometric murals. One of my favorite spots was a mural on the side of Levan Deli at 12th Avenue and Acoma, just down the street from the ART Hotel. The mural, titled, “Heart of the City” by Pat Milbery is one of many from his “Love this City” campaign. So far, there are six murals in this campaign throughout Denver including the colorful and creative areas of RiNo and the Art District on Santa Fe. As a lover of all things Denver, I was happy to be showing around two people who appreciated the beauty of Denver’s concrete jungle.
Our session concluded and with hugs the group continued on to have a special dinner to celebrate their new marriage. Another special downtown Denver elopement in the books!
