Only 45 minutes northwest of Denver, Lost Gulch Overlook is an amazing engagement photoshoot spot showcasing rocks, pines and views of mountains located just up the road from Chautauqua Park in Boulder, Colorado. Vera & Matt were the stars of this Lost Gulch Overlook Engagement session complete with snowy trees, snowcapped mountains and a beer toast to complete the session.
While we had originally planned to shoot the day before, Mother Nature sent snow and ice in our direction so we rescheduled for the next morning. This morning engagement session was a winter dream. We ran around in knee-deep snow, they threw some snowballs, they climbed up snowy rocks, and perhaps my favorite, they brought along some of their favorite beer for a beer toast instead of a champagne pop at the end. Even though I am a warm weather person, I thoroughly enjoyed walking, sliding and laying in the snow (yes, I did straight up lay down in the snow during the session) to capture these wintery photos.
One recommendation that I tell all couples before engagement sessions is to bring props. Whether it’s a date sign for your Save the Date, a blanket to keep you warm, cold weather accessories like hats and gloves, champagne for a champagne pop or any special item, these props can make for the cutest pictures. With Vera & Matt’s blanket, beer and cold weather accessories, we were able to get a ton of variety.
While I have photographed a handful of sessions at Lost Gulch, this Lost Gulch Overlook engagement session was the first I had photographed during the winter. With how much baking show television I watch, I couldn’t help thinking to myself that everything looked like it was perfectly coated in powdered sugar. If you’re heading up after snow, be aware that the roads may be a little slick on your way up, but the scenery is well worth it.
