Philip & Jason were married on a beautiful fall day in October 2019. While the fall can be unpredictable for Colorado, this day was full of sunshine, soft breezes and a few remnant yellow trees with leaves just about to fall.
We began our coverage documenting Philip & Jason getting ready in separate spaces of the venue and then meeting up for their first look on the balcony. After the first look, we journeyed to the tree covered hills surrounding the Pines at Genesee to capture some couples portraits of the couple before the guests began arriving and the ceremony began. When photographing couples, I give minor direction and like to let the couple move freely as they would normally. I find that this allows for more natural feelings images that ultimately the couple likes more. With the sun streaming in through the trees, we had the best backdrop for photos.
The beautiful light continued through their ceremony and turned into a beautiful sunset for their reception. Before the reception began, Philip & Jason invited everyone to sit down and enjoy a slideshow that they had prepared, including photos throughout their relationship. This was the first time that I had seen a slideshow presented in this manor and I loved the thought and love they had put into it. The guests obviously loved the slideshow and gave huge applause when the couple emerged after it had ended.
The night ended with a busy dance floor full of kids and adults letting loose, making for some awesome candid photos.
As a Colorado same sex wedding photographer, it is the utmost importance for me to ensure my couples feel respected and cared for by myself and my second shooter. With the privilege of being invited into such intimate and special spaces as weddings, comes the responsibility to do justice by my couple in documenting their day including the moments that occur both big and small with and without the couple. Being able to document Philip & Jason’s special day was not only an honor but a wonderful day filled with so much kindness and joy.
