As someone who grew up in Littleton, Colorado, I was excited when Hannah and Tino reached out to me about their wedding at Light of the World Roman Catholic Church in Littleton. Having driven past the church numerous times, I knew the facade but not what was inside. A few weeks before the wedding, we met up to do a walk-through and discuss possible spots for a first look, family photos, etc. I was blown away by the beautifully adorned walls and windows inside of the sanctuary, and how much light there was filling the space. While I had shot many weddings, this was only my fourth Roman Catholic Church wedding, and I knew that there were rules specific to the church that would need to be followed.
While each church is different, most churches do not allow you to get too close to the couple and only allow you to be in the middle aisle for the processional and the kiss. There is also a restriction for shooting while people are praying and no flash is allowed. Ensuring I followed the rules and respected the church was of utmost priority, but also my obligation to the couple and ensuring I was able to capture the special moments that took place. My second shooter, Brittany, and I worked seamlessly to capture the ceremony, while ensuring we did not distract anyone or take away from the significance of it.
The Roman Catholic Church made a perfect setting for getting ready, the first look, the ceremony and family formals, and we even got lucky enough to use the nursery next door, Jared’s Nursery, for a few couple’s portraits. The staff was so kind and willing to let us walk around the aisles of the trees and potted plants to find unique backgrounds for the portraits. There was even a dinosaur amongst the lines of trees that I insisted we get a photo with!
The day was filled with a whole lot of joy and laughter, and I feel very fortunate that I could be a part of Hannah and Tino’s Roman Catholic Church wedding. To see photos from other church weddings, visit my wedding gallery.
