Allison & Phil married at one of Denver’s newest venues, Space Annex Denver on a lovely, windy day in September. Space Annex opened this year and has the same owners as the similarly named, Space Gallery. With its rooftop patio, beautiful art and modern features, this venue is an excellent location for an urban wedding.
I had met Allison & Phil a week before their wedding, where we got to chat about timelines and last minute details. They mentioned that they loved color and wanted to incorporate the nearby murals and sculptures into their portraits. One of these sculptures was a large yellow sculpture that has been called the “Ruffle Potato chip” sculpture in my family for years. I loved that they were as drawn to color as I am.
The day of the wedding, I began documenting Allison getting ready with her mom and friends. They all shared laughs as they tried to lace up the back of her dress, and even had to pull out a video to remind themselves how it had been done at the bridal shop.
After Allison was dressed and ready to go, the ceremony was ready to begin. With rustling leaves in the background and a smooth breeze, Allison walked down the aisle with her father, to her groom, Phil. The wedding was officiated by one of their good friends and focused on their relationship, including how they had met from a Craig’s List posting!
The ceremony concluded and we all went out to capture some color for their portraits. We stopped by nearby murals and, of course, the Ruffle potato chip sculpture (that I now know is called the “Articulated Wall“). The evening continued with hugs, eating, drinking and some dancing at the end of the night.
It was a blast for me to document such a vibrant fall wedding at Space Annex Denver for Allison & Phil. Not only was it a joy to have met them, but a joy to have been trusted to capture their wedding day.
