Downtown Engagement – Houston Photographer – Aimee & Nick

Colorful murals, tall buildings and alleys in the city have a special place in my heart. As a Colorado native, I have seen my fair share of exquisite sunsets, evergreens flecked with snow and almost constant mountain views. Just as I appreciate the gorgeous landscape of Colorado, I adore the color, texture and whimsy of cities. In this instance, I got to photograph a downtown engagement in the heart of Houston, Texas. Aimee and Nick, fellow lovers of urban jungles, let my imagination run free as we romped through the street of Houston’s urban oasis.

Within a few blocks, we were able to find multiple murals, alleys and buildings to serve as backdrops for our downtown engagement images. One of my favorite spots was the side of a building with a white and black tile on the bottom and a completely black wall above it. This contrast allowed Aimee and Nick to stand out and drew the focus into them.

We even found an incredible parking garage with a beautiful view of the Houston skyline and an even more interesting interior. We shot some with the skyline, then played around with the fluorescent lights, the textured walls and the wood barricades inside. Armed with my iPhone and prisms, I was able to play around to create fun patterns and reflections.

It is such an honor to be selected to photograph a couple. It is an even bigger honor to be allowed and trusted to be creative, having no control and not knowing the outcome. I thoroughly appreciated the opportunity that Aimee and Nick gave me by trusting me enough to create something beautiful for them.
